Our Story
Compass began with a simple observation: too many elderly care homes in Singapore felt clinical and impersonal. A small group of healthcare professionals and social workers, all of whom had experienced the frustration of finding suitable care for their own parents, decided that there had to be a gentler way.
In 2014, we opened our doors at 44 Hougang Avenue 8 with just twelve residents and a belief that a care home should feel like a real home. Not a hospital ward, not a waiting room — but a place where morning routines are respected, favourite dishes are remembered, and conversations happen at each person's pace.
Over the years, our team has grown, and so has our understanding of what it means to care well. We have learned that consistency matters more than novelty, that music can open doors that words cannot, and that the wellbeing of caregivers is just as important as the wellbeing of those they look after. These lessons have shaped every programme we offer today.
Our name reflects what we set out to be: a steady, reliable guide for families navigating the often difficult path of elder care. Compass does not promise perfection. What we do promise is that every resident will be treated as a whole person — with their own history, preferences, and dignity intact.

Person-Centred Approach
Every care plan is built around the individual. We consider medical needs, personal habits, food preferences, and social interests when designing support programmes.
Nutrition & Dietary Care
Meals are prepared in-house with attention to medical diets, cultural preferences, and texture requirements. Our menu rotates weekly for variety and balance.
Safety Protocols
Our premises are equipped with fire safety systems, fall-prevention measures, and 24-hour monitoring. Evacuation drills are conducted quarterly with all staff and residents.
Privacy & Confidentiality
Resident records and personal data are handled in accordance with Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act. Access is restricted to authorised care personnel only.
What Guides Us Every Day
At Compass, care is not a product we deliver — it is a relationship we build. Our work rests on the understanding that ageing does not diminish a person's need for connection, purpose, and respect. We listen before we act, and we adjust when circumstances change.
Our team knows the names, stories, and preferences of every resident. That kind of familiarity takes time and consistency, which is why we invest in staff retention, ongoing training, and a work culture that values empathy alongside clinical competence. When caregivers feel supported, the people they care for feel it too.
We also believe that families deserve honesty. Elder care involves difficult conversations, and we would rather share a truthful observation than offer empty reassurance. Families who entrust their loved ones to Compass can expect regular updates, open communication, and an invitation to be as involved as they wish.
Hougang is more than our postal address — it is our community. Many of our residents spent decades in this neighbourhood, and we are committed to keeping them connected to the familiar sounds, smells, and rhythms of the place they call home.
